For Residential Premises

Open, Better and Faster

For a truly open, better and faster network with guaranteed success for the entire Singapore population to enjoy.

Typical installation within the home
OpenNet Fibre OpticsThe installation process will depend on your building type. As far as possible, OpenNet’s installer will try to use existing points of entry or any existing surface trunking within your home to minimise any drilling or hacking works for the installation of fibre. OpenNet will endeavour to minimise any inconvenience to the owners/tenants and seek your understanding on the construction.

OpenNet will provide surface trunking to a termination point within 15 metres from the main entrance of the premise. This first 15 metres in-house fibre wiring will be provided at OpenNet’s cost.

The fibre will be terminated into a small termination box and this is suggested to be next to the current SCV points or utility closet within the unit. Home owners are encouraged to place the 1st TP close to power sources.

What will the set up and installation entail within the premise?
The installation work within the residential unit will take less than 4 hours per installation and OpenNet will send up to 3 installers, depending on the complexity of the unit’s layout.

OpenNet’s contractor will consult with the homeowner to determine a suitable location to mount the fibre box within the premise.

Where possible, OpenNet’s contractor will leverage the existing points of entry to install the optical fibre cable into the homes.

What are the charges that I have to bear for the installation of the optical fibre point into my home?
OpenNet will make reasonable attempts via letters & other means to reach home owners to get them to sign up.

The charges for the first installation during the offer period will be waived as long as the 1st TP is within a 15 metre fibre run starting from the door (in the case of a high rise residential building) or the gate pillar (in the case of landed premises). OpenNet will impose cost-oriented charges for installation of the 1st TP beyond 15m.

Will one fibre point be enough since I have home networking with multiple users at home (e.g. myself, my wife & 2 kids)? Does it support home networking?
Currently, the maximum broadband speeds offered are up to 100Mbps. Broadband through fibre will be able to provide speeds of 1Gbps and above, which are at least 10 times more than the current market offerings. These speeds can be delivered using only one optical fibre point.

OpenNet will connect one fibre point to every household. Additional fibre points can be requested through your Retail Service Providers (RSPs), if necessary.

Once the optical fibre point is established within the Home, your Retail Service Provider will work with you to establish a home network to link all your computers.

Should you decide against the installation of optical fibre cables to your premises, you can reply to OpenNet within three weeks from the date of the initial letter of offer by returning the letter signed.

OpenNet will also utilise existing ducts (if any) and trunkings from the telecoms riser to your premises. The use of existing facilities will help to ensure minimal disturbance to you.

What can optical fibre do for me?
Once the optical fibre cable is installed into your Homes, a whole new slew of products have been envisaged to be offered to the customers. With the huge bandwidth that can be tapped, residential homes can expect to watch multiple High Definition (HD) channels via the web, download/upload information much faster than what is currently available, videoconference & communicate with friends/peers and whole new dimensions of entertainment, work, learning and interaction is set to be unleashed, revolutionising lifestyles. The Retail Service Providers will offer more details on their offerings in the months ahead.

Can this point be used to watch pay TV as well?
The optical fibre network is capable of transmitting multiple HDTV channels simultaneously. Whether there is a pay TV service available will depend on the service offerings made available by RSPs.

You can continue to use the StarHub Cable point provided in each home to watch StarHub Cable programmes. The optical fibre point is envisaged to deliver Voice, Video and Data Communications to consumers and allow Service Providers to offer richer content to consumers.

After installing this point, does it mean I can enjoy high speed broadband without subscribing to SingNet/StarHub/PacNet anymore?
You can choose to subscribe to any service offered by any Retail Service Provider over the fibre network. It is anticipated that SingNet, StarHub, PacNet, M1 or any such providers may also offer their high speed broadband services over the fibre network in the future.

What is the maximum download speed of optic fibre?
Theoretically, the bandwidth/speeds of optical fibre cable can extend to even 40Gbps. However for all practical purposes, for Home use, bandwidth/speeds of 100Mbps up to 1Gbps are currently envisaged (this would depend on the different offerings by the different Retail Service Providers). At the moment, this should be sufficient. In future should there be an increase in the bandwidth/speed, the optical fibre can easily accommodate it, so this would minimise any future installations required. This is why the optical fibre setup is important. It would minimise any further disturbance to residents in future even as bandwidth/speed requirement increases or different type of services are required.

I already have a Fibre connection at home. Can I sign up for additional fibre connection at the same address? How do I go about doing this?
You may request for an additional Fiber Termination point (in addition to the Free First Termination point) to be installed within your home via your RSPs.
